A Little Short Story

Shirley & Marcy

A mom was concerned about her kindergarten son walking to school. He didn't want his mother to walk with him. She wanted to give him the feeling that he had some independence but yet know that he was safe.

So she had an idea of how to handle it. She asked a neighbor if she would please follow him to school in the mornings, staying at a distance, so he probably wouldn't notice her.

She said that since she was up early with her toddler anyway, it would be a good way for them to get some exercise as well, so she agreed.

The next school day, the neighbor and her little girl set out following behind Timmy as he walked to school with another neighbor girl he knew. She did this for the whole week.

As the two walked and chatted, kicking stones and twigs, Timmy's little friend noticed the same lady was following them as she seemed to do every day all week. Finally she said to Timmy, 'Have you noticed that lady following us to school all week?

Do you know her?'
Timmy nonchalantly replied, 'Yeah, I know who she is.'
The little girl said, 'Well, who is she?'
'That's just Shirley Goodnest,' Timmy replied, 'and her daughter Marcy.'

'Shirley Goodnest? Who the heck is she and why is she following us?
'Well,' Timmy explained, 'every night my Mom makes me say the 23rd Psalm with my prayers, 'cuz she worries about me so much.

And in the Psalm, it says, 'Shirley Goodnest and Marcy shall follow me all the days of my life', so I guess I'll just have to get used to it!'

The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face to shine upon you, and be gracious unto you; the Lord lift His countenance upon you, and give you peace.

May Shirley Goodnest and Marcy be with you today and always.

Summertime!

"And it's two bare feet on the dashboard
Young love and an old Ford
Cheap shades and a tattoo
And a Yoo-Hoo bottle on the floorboard

Perfect song on the radio
Sing along 'cause it's one we know
It's a smile, it's a kiss
It's a sip of wine, it's summertime
Sweet summertime" Kenny Chesney

Finals are done and it is officially summertime! It was a great year for me and I hope for all of the students as well-I believe there was fun, learning, and spiritual growth! If there is any student that would like to see what they got on their final, I will be at school on Tuesday from 10-???.

For those who do not already know, I will be teaching Freshman Theology next school year. I enjoyed teaching Algebra this past year and am looking forward to the switch next year.

Thank You Fr. Joe for all of your service to STM and Good Luck on your new assignment.

This summer will be very busy for me. I will be getting married in July, finding a house, and getting ready for next school year. It will be a lot fun and a transition in life that I am looking forward to.

Have a great summer and I will try and post on here every once in a while. Go have fun with friends, relax, go to Six Flags, see some Cardinals, Cubs, or White Sox Baseball Games, swimming, play some golf, fish, read some good books, and many more fun and exciting things that can be done in the summer! God Bless.

Good Luck with Finals!!!

O Great St. Joseph of Cupertino who while on earth did obtain from God the grace to be asked at your examination only the questions you knew, obtain for me a like favour in the examinations for which I am now preparing. In return I promise to make you known and cause you to be invoked.

Through Christ our Lord.

St. Joseph of Cupertino, Pray for us.

Amen.

Last 2 days of school

Graduation Weekend was very nice-it makes me think about when I graduated and all the adventures, journeys, and experiences students have in 4 years of high school-how they grow from "deer-in-the-headlights" freshman to "mature" and confident seniors. Ji-Su Park delivered a well-thought and enlightening Valedictorian Speech. Good Luck in all of life's endeavors and whatever the road may hold ahead.

In Algebra we finished the "Tree" Charts for the final. We will go over specifics on the final and some more review problems as well tomorrow in class.

Congratulations to all the girls who made it to the State Track Meet! Good Luck!

Good Luck to the Softball and Baseball Teams this week @ Regionals. Bring home a trophy!

Pope Benedict VXI's Prayer that he placed in the Western Wall in Jerusalem
"God of all the ages,
on my visit to Jerusalem, the 'City of Peace,'
spiritual home to Jews, Christians and Muslims alike,
I bring before you the joys, the hopes and the aspirations,
the trials, the suffering and the pain of all your people throughout the world.
God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob,
hear the cry of the afflicted, the fearful, the bereft;
send your peace upon this Holy Land, upon the Middle East,
upon the entire human family;
stir the hearts of all who call upon your name,
to walk humbly in the path of justice and compassion.
'The Lord is good to those who wait for him,
to the soul that seeks him!' (Lam 3:25)"

Have a Great Week and good luck to all Saber teams-baseball, softball, and track!

It's Friday!

Only 7 more "School Days" until the school year is over; there is officially 10 school days left (3 finals days). As St. Paul says "Do you not know that the runners in the stadium all run in the race, but only one wins the prize? Run so as to win. (1 Corinthians 9:24)" Finish the school year as if you are running a race, do not quit before the finish line-complete all missing work, hand in papers on time, etc. Seniors good luck on Finals and in college!

Algebra I Students: There is now a link for the topics that will be covered on the final (see right side of page on the "Links" header)

From Archbishop of Denver Charles J. Chaput:

“The lesson of St. Paul, now and for every generation, is that we need to engage the world with intelligence, a creative spirit and, most importantly, charity, which ‘bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.'”

Real charity depends on truth, not “shallow courtesies” and “false compromises.”

“Paul reminds us that charity ‘does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth’ (I Cor 13:6). In fact, no greater gift of love exists than sharing the truth with others. Only God’s truth sets us free.”

“Jesus himself did not claim to ‘preach’ the truth but to be the truth. That’s why a Christianity based only on technique or useful ideas or a system of good social principles will always fail. Christianity can only be anchored in a love for Jesus Christ.”

“The cross of Jesus Christ is not a ‘philosophy.’ It’s an instrument of killing stained with the blood of a Person who was once dead but is now alive.”

“Only if we really believe the Resurrection of Jesus Christ in our bones, only if we endure in proclaiming that truth,” he concluded, will we be able to share St. Paul’s relief and joy in “the crown of righteousness.”

Have a great weekend and good luck to all Saber Athletic Teams competing this weekend.

Good Luck to any sports teams playing this weekend! Happy May Day-say a Hail Mary!

Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit
of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now,
and at the hour of death.
Amen."
